The Minister of Health urges engineers and health workers to collaborate to improve the health system

The Fibes II Conference Center hosted the opening ceremony of the 41st Hospital Engineering Seminar this morning by the hand of José Manuel Giraldo Estefanipresident of the Organizing Committee; José Luis López Gonzálezpresident of the Spanish Association of Hospital Engineering (AEIH); and Rocio Hernandez SotoHealth Minister of Andalusia.

All of them have emphasized the great opportunity of being able to hold the congress in this city. Furthermore, they have highlighted the importance of these days to learn about the latest advances in sustainability in the healthcare sector.

Firstly, José Manuel Giraldo Estefani, president of the Organizing Committee of the 41st Hospital Engineering Seminar, was in charge of inaugurating this important meeting, which, as he pointed out, “has become a reference about the present and future of Hospital Engineering”. In this sense, Giraldo explained that in these days that “have each of the sectors assistance” will address a wide range of issues that “are of increasing concern to society.” This is the case of the cybersecuritywhich, as the health sector has indicated, sees how technology advances every day and, with it, security systems, “which is why it is essential to be prepared.”

On behalf of José Luís López González, president of the AEIH, he has emphasized the idea that these sessions “serve to contribute to make visible a profession like this” and serve as a “meeting point” for the different actors involved in this sector.

Finally, and to finally inaugurate the 41st Hospital Engineering Seminar, Rocio Hernandez SotoMinister of Health of Andalusia, began her speech by sharing an anecdote that reflects the importance of collaboration between healthcare workers and engineers.

‘I started working side by side with an engineer 15 years ago, and on one occasion, during a renovation, an idea occurred to me that my fellow engineer received with some surprise. I wanted to tear down a partition that turned out to be a load-bearing wall to make a new room. At that moment my fellow engineer looked at me as if to say please, how patient I am with these two pediatricians,” commented the counselor.

This story, far from being a simple anecdote, shows the need for health workers and engineers work together to find innovative solutions to the challenges posed by the management of health centers. For this reason, the counselor called on the engineers, asking them patience and understanding to the proposals of health professionals, since both groups share the common objective of improving the health and well-being of the population.

UNDERSTAND THE CAUSE OF PROBLEMS

Before starting the 13 discussion tables that will take place during these days, the member of the Hall of Fame of the American Association of Clinical Engineers, the Dr. Binseng Wangwanted to warn in his keynote lecture that “I am not here to explain anything, I am here to share my experience and teach the mistakes we have made, since if we do not learn about our own mistakes we will not be able to improve the society we serve,” said the doctor.

At the same time, he has emphasized the importance of understand the cause of problems that arise in a person’s lifemedical device and not dwell on the symptoms.
