Caring for our hearts while sharing life

With the motto Take care of your heart, share lifethe campaign seeks raise awareness about the importance of preventing pathologiesoften silent and largely avoidable, that constitute the main cause of mortality in Euskadi and in the worldbeing responsible for one in four deaths in the case of the Basque Country.

It also raffles off blood pressure monitors and medical examinations in order to encourage participation.

The campaign started last October 9 and will be active until the 20th in Bilbao and Donostia and until the 13th in Vitoria-Gasteiz. IMQ has installed meeting points in each of the three Basque capitals where citizens will be able to receive information and, in the case of Bilbao, also taking blood pressure to also check your exposure to one of the risks that most affects cardiovascular diseases today, hypertension.

They also represent important risks at the metabolic level pathologies such as obesity, hypercholesterolemia or diabeteswhile in terms of habits that are especially harmful to this type of ailments, harmful substances such as tobacco (including vaping) or alcohol, high-fat and ultra-processed diets, or a sedentary lifestyle.

The campaign also has the collaboration of leading specialists from the IMQ medical team: Dr. Álvaro Ortiz de Salazar, cardiac surgeon; Dr. Ainhoa ​​Rubio; Dr. Zigor Madaria; and Dr. Vanessa Escolar, cardiologists, who have lent their testimony, support and expert advice for the purposes of the initiative.

Along with the face-to-face activities In the three Basque capitals, IMQ has also developed a website dedicated specifically to the campaignwhich offers wide information about cardiovascular diseases, their symptoms, risk factors and preventive advice carried by the company’s own specialists.

Within the website it is also accessible for download a free guide where the most relevant content to consider in relation to cardiovascular diseases is compiled, including a prevention decalogue.

Solidarity collaboration

IMQ has integrated the solidarity component in its campaign since, at the end of the campaign and on behalf of the people who are encouraged to share the content published on social networks, IMQ will carry out a donation to BihotzezBasque association that provides accompaniment and support to patients with congenital heart disease and their familiesin order to also contribute to a group of people for whom prevention is unfortunately not possible.

The president of IMQ, Dr. Beatriz Astigarraga, was in charge of inaugurate the campaign in Bilbao on October 9highlighting that “inform and raise awareness among the population It is key to preventing the serious consequences of these pathologies.
