The Health and Socio-Sanitary Secotrs union of CCOO of Málaga and the Independent Union and Civil Servants Central, CSIF, have requested the resignation of the territorial delegate of Health and Consumer Affairs of the Junta de Andalucía in Málaga, Carlos Bautista, considering that he has “discredited » to the professionals of the Civil Hospital.

From CCOO they consider “a lack of respect and contempt towards the professionals of the Civil Hospital the statements in the controversial video of the delegate who for more than 30 years provided their services in the emergencies of the Civil Hospital with dedication, qualification and a great capacity for resolution, “Well, they treated 300 patients a day, which unfortunately today must absorb the emergencies of the Regional Hospital.”

Regarding the video, Commissions points out that Bautista “was quick to delete it and apologize, but a new mistake, with an unusual contempt for health professionals, and something to which we are already accustomed, lacking the truth and That is why we at CCOO ask for his resignation or immediate termination.

«It is implausible that the Health delegate compares these emergencies – those of the Civil Hospital – with those of a primary care health center, since all of us from Malaga who have had the opportunity to go to the Civil Hospital emergencies know that both the staff specialist doctor, the means and diagnostic tests have nothing to do with extra-hospital emergencies,” CCOO points out.

For its part, CSIF has also formally demanded Bautista’s immediate resignation. “This is an unacceptable lack of respect, both for citizens and for professionals,” they point out and demand a “clear rectification,” as well as that they cease their duties.

In a letter addressed to the Delegation, the union center has expressed its “strongest condemnation of the statements made by Bautista in a video published on social networks, in which he not only fails to tell the truth, but also makes unjust and serious accusations.” “to the workers and unions of complicity in the closure of the hospital emergencies of the Civil Hospital, in 2020.”

For the CSIF, it is unacceptable that a public representative “uses misinformation as a tool to divert responsibilities or justify decisions that seriously affect public health.”

And they add that “the irresponsible statements of the Health delegate not only damage the image of the SAS workers and their union representatives, but also lie with impunity to the people of Malaga about the reasons behind the closure of some hospital emergencies.”

The union center points out in an information note that the Emergency unit of the Civil Hospital, which the SAS suppressed due to the pandemic in 2020 supposedly temporarily to “improve” the response to the coronavirus, treated an average of 350 cases daily, which were absorbed by the Regional Hospital of Malaga, with the consequent problems of collapse and overload, overcrowding and a decrease in the quality of care.”

CSIF takes a look at its signs of rejection of the measure and its criticism of the closure: «Both health professionals and the union center have warned on numerous occasions about the lack of resources, personnel and adequate planning, factors that are truly behind this closure,” they point out.

«Citizens deserve the truth, and public sector workers, especially those in the health field, should not be used as scapegoats or identified as accomplices in the dismantling of essential public services, when in reality they are the direct victims of the lack of support and resources”, they conclude in this regard.

Medical Union

The Malaga Medical Union (SMM) has also reacted to Bautista’s statements and his subsequent apologies, and in this regard they consider that “this man’s time at the head of the provincial delegation is exhausted. All this in an open bipartisan political war whose victims are health professionals and citizens.

For the SMM, the delegate “has once again demonstrated on social networks a new display of ignorance in matters of health” in statements in videos on social networks that they call “controversial, vulgar and empty, which we are accustomed to.”

«An intervention in which he criticizes the work of professionals who for years and since 1989 have contributed all their efforts to the emergency service of the Civil Hospital, a unit that is not recognized as such in its statements and that denotes the significant lack of knowledge of this political, when in reality this hospital center was equipped with a multipurpose area, an observation with beds and chairs and an intensive care unit, in addition to the support of highly qualified emergency physicians and intensivists,” underlines the Malaga Medical Union.

For the SMM, the delegate “contradicts himself by stating that ‘they were not emergencies’ and, later, he does recognize them and, in addition, compares them with a health center or “fake emergency room”, manifestations that are at least worrying, given that the closure of the Civil Hospital emergencies never had the opinion of the workers or their union representatives.

And finally, they point out that “telling the people of Malaga that this type of hospital emergency was ‘a danger’ is irresponsible and an insult to his former colleagues, since he seems not to remember that he worked as a doctor some time ago.”
